Building on a long-standing commitment to AIJA
The appointment builds on Johannes’ long-standing involvement with AIJA. Over the years, he has contributed to the international network both professionally and organisationally, particularly in the field of insolvency and restructuring.
Most recently, Johannes served on the Organising Committee of the 2026 Annual Insolvency Conference in Helsinki. He also moderated the panel “The New Architecture of Corporate Rescue: Global Shifts and Legal Innovation”, which explored international developments in restructuring frameworks and the future of corporate rescue. In 2025, he also moderated a session on financing group restructurings at the joint AIJA and INSOL Europe conference in Girona. His new position as Vice-President is therefore a natural continuation of his involvement in the Commission.
International restructuring as part of his practice
The work of the Commission is closely connected to Johannes’ legal practice at Maxfeld.legal. He advises companies, shareholders and investors on corporate law, M&A transactions as well as restructuring and insolvency situations. Cross-border transactions and international matters form a significant part of his work. He has further deepened his expertise in insolvency law through an LL.M. focusing on insolvency and reorganisation proceedings. International restructurings in particular depend not only on legal expertise, but also on effective cooperation across jurisdictions. Different legal frameworks need to be coordinated, and the advisers involved need to be able to work together efficiently from an early stage.
Relationships that cross jurisdictions
For us at Maxfeld.legal, Johannes’ new role also reflects an important part of how we approach international work. Cross-border mandates work best when cooperation does not begin with a specific case, but is built on established personal relationships, continuous professional exchange and trust between advisers in different jurisdictions. AIJA has provided an important platform for exactly this kind of exchange for many years. We are therefore very pleased to see Johannes take on an even more active role in shaping the work of the Insolvency & Restructuring Commission as Vice-President.
